PCC Apostille Procedure

The steps to apostille your Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) will be different depending on whether it was given by the local police, the Indian Embassy, or a Regional Passport Office (RPO). Here is the whole process

A

If PCC was issued by the Local Police

1) Notarization is Important for the PCC

The process will start with notarization, where a notary public will do the initial verification of your PCC. They will check the signature and your identity, and also check the PCC document. Once they are assured, they will stamp your PCC, and you can now move to the next step.

2)  SDM / Home Department Verifies Your PCC

Here, the State Home Department (SHD) of the Indian state where your PCC was issued is in charge. Their role is to verify all personal documents, including PCC. In many cases, a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) can also do the PCC verification. After your PCC get checked by SDM or the home department, you can move to the final stage.

3) MEA apostille of PCC

Now, you have to submit your PCC to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in Delhi for the national-level verification. Remember that your PCC must be verified by the state before taking it to the MEA. The officials at MEA will verify your PCC one last time and then put an apostille stamp on your PCC. Now, you can use your PCC in any country that is part of the Hague Convention.

B

If PCC was issued by the Indian Embassy or a Regional Passport Officer (RPO)

In this process, you have to take your Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) straight to the MEA. Here, they will check your PCC’s authenticity, and once it’s approved, they put an apostille stamp on it. After that, your PCC is ready to be used in another country.
