MEA Attestation Process in India

To get the MEA attestation in India, there are 3 stages of verification.
Some documents, including affidavit, agreement, personal declarations, and powers of attorney, must first be notarized by a notary public. This implies the government verifies their authenticity.
The second stage includes verification of your documents by different government bodies.
  • Human Resource Development (HRD) verification: All your educational documents including worksheets, certificates, degrees, and other qualifications are verified by HRD. 
  • The Home Department verification: Your personal documents like birth certificates, marriage certificates, and single-status certificates are checked by your state’s Home Department. 
  • The Chamber of Commerce verification: This government body verifies all your company or business-related paperwork like contracts.
  •  Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) verification: Depending on state laws and requirements, you may need SDM verification for your documents.
Once your documents are verified by HRD/ SDM/ Chamber of Commerce/ State Home Department, they are sent to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for stamping.

How to Get MEA Attestation?

Handling MEA attestation yourself involves multiple steps. You start with notary public attestation, then go to SDM/State Home Department/HRD/Chamber of Commerce. After state-level verification, you take your documents to MEA for attestation.
