Power of Attorney Apostille Process

Apostille process has two different ways depending on the nature of the POA (Power of Attorney). If POA is personal, the process involves notarization > Home department /SDM verification > MEA apostille. If POA is business-related, then it's Chamber of Commerce verification > MEA apostille.
  • Step 1: Notarization

    Notarization

    Personal or Commercial POA

If your Power of Attorney (POA) is for personal or commercial use, it must be notarised.  Here, you need to visit a Notary Public who will check your identity and confirm that the document is real.

  • Step 2: Chamber of Commerce (CoC)/ Home Department verification for Power of Attorney Certificate

Chamber of Commerce (CoC)/ Home Department verification for Power of Attorney Certificate

    Personal POA

If the POA is for personal use, you have to take it to the State Home Department or the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) after notarization. They will verify your POA and place their stamp.

    Commercial POA

If your Power of Attorney (POA) is for business or commercial use, you directly need to get it verified by the Chamber of Commerce. This step confirms that the document is genuine and your business is following the proper rules.

  • Step 3: MEA apostille of Power of Attorney

MEA apostille of Power of Attorney

Regardless of whether your POA falls under the personal or commercial document category, the final stage includes verification by the MEA (Ministry of External Affairs). Now, submit your POA to MEA in Delhi. They will do the final verification and then place an apostille stamp on it.
