Get your documents ready for your move to Sri Lanka by attesting them at the Sri Lanka Embassy! Whether it’s your birth certificate, marriage certificate, invoices, or degree certificates, attestation is a must. While the process can be long and tedious, we’re here to make it easy for you. Our experts will take care of everything, from the notary public verification to the Sri Lanka Embassy attestation in India. Check out all the details below.
Your documents follow 4 stages of verification to become valid for use in Sri Lanka.
First, some of your documents need to be notarized by a notary public. A notarization is like a government stamp of approval for your documents. They check to make sure everything is real and not fake. This is important for lots of papers, like contracts, wills, and power of attorney forms.
Once your documents are notarized, they move on to different departments for more checks:
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) stamp: Sometimes, documents need an extra check from the SDM. It depends on the type of document or state laws.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is the main authority for international affairs in India. Once your documents reach them, they give a special stamp that says your documents are real and all the other stamps before that, (like Notary Public, Home Department, SDM, HRD, and Chamber of Commerce) are real too. After MEA puts their stamp, your document is good to go for final attestation!
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in Sri Lanka is crucial for visa approvals. They need your documents to be checked by the Sri Lankan embassy to ensure they’re real. After MEA attestation, the Sri Lankan embassy checks your documents. Once they stamp them, your documents are good to go in Sri Lanka!
Although you can handle Sri Lanka attestation on your own, it involves several steps and dealings with different government offices. You’ll need to get your documents attested by a Notary Public first, then by a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), State Home Department, Human Resource Department (HRD), or Chamber of Commerce, and finally, by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The last step is to visit the Sri Lanka embassy in India for the final stamp.
